Now a days, the number of people complaining of unhealthiness and they are unable to find the right solution to these problems/diseases only because they have not yet addressed their root causes.

We always use to say that “Prevention is better than cure”. ‘Prevention is better than cure’, this principle has been well recognized and followed by Ayurveda since around five thousand year ago. The word ‘Prevention’ has given more importance in all Health sciences and only Ayurveda teaches us about living in a certain manner that can prevent us from falling ill. Ayurveda gives guidance on both Prevention as well as Cure. Ayurveda’s Immunology is included in the swasthavrutta, (a part of this Ayurveda science) and that too with a wider perspective than the present modern medical science.

Ayurveda means ‘Ayushaha Vedaha’ ( Science of Life ) (Ayu= Life, Veda= Knowledge).

Today, the world is looking at Ayurveda as the ultimate healer science. Ayurveda is one of the most ancient Health Science in the world. It is a holistic healing and wellness science that was once unknown to the western world, and even considered unscientific by the conventional medical community. Contained in it are the hidden secrets and wisdom of nature that can help human beings attain all purpose in the Life. The wisdom of Ayurveda can help us live a healthy and happy life every day. Ayurveda teaches us to create the perfect Balance or harmony between the body, mind and soul, and also to adapt to the changes happening in and around us.

A disease can be successfully and completely treated, only if we have proper knowledge of the cause, origin and site of the disease, mode of transmission, identification of risk factors and risk groups, and available prophylactic or treatment measures. Ayurveda has mentioned certain rules for the promotion,  preservation and restoration of health when it is impaired, along with methods to minimize the suffering and distress.

Being in good health requires the individual to be in a balanced state with the rhythm of natural cycles i.e. cycles of time during the day and night, as well as the seasonal changes throughout the year which influence the three doshas. When the rhythms of the body are in perfect harmony with the rhythms of the Cosmos or Universe, an individual feels energetic, joyful, creative, and comfortable. Good health is a harmonious interaction between all elements within us and those within the nature. The moment our body fails to adjust to the cosmos, it results in what we call diseases/ailments.

Prevention in two ways – Before Disease and After Disease

Preventive measures by Ayurveda

  • Dinacharya
  • Rutucharya
  • Sadvritta
  • Shodhana
  • Rasayanas
  • Sattvavijaya
  • Rules for Ahar (Diet)
  • Rules for Vihar

-Dinacharya (daily regimen),

-Rutucharya (rules for change in diet and daily regimen according to the changes in climate)

-Sadvritta (rules for mental health and social behavior).

-Shodhana – Seasonal cleansing of Body includes Panchkarma. Due to changes in the climate (seasonal changes) the balance of all three doshas ( Vata, Pitta, Kapha) is affected and a particular dosha may get vitiated at a particular period of change in season. To bring the proper balance of these three doshas, ayurveda advises the use of certain purification methods/treatments known as ‘Panchakarma’

-Rasayanas – Intake of Ayurvedic Rasayan medicine

-Sattvavijaya – Improving the mental strength with the help of Yoga and Dhyana.

-Rules for Ahar (Diet)

-Rules for Vihar – Adhaaraniya Vegas (Non- retention of the Natural urges) , Yogya Vyayama (Proper Exercise)
