KNEE ARTHRITIS

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of knee arthritis.

Knee arthritis typically affects patient over 50 years of age.

It is more common in overweight patients.

CAUSES:

The Knee joint is the largest and most complex joint and therefore the most stressed  joint in the body. It is this complexity and stress which can cause Knee arthritis

  • History of acute injury to knee.
  • Previous Fracture at the site of knee.
  • Obesity (over weight).
  • Intense physical sports, such as Football.
  • Genetic (hereditary) factors.

SYMPTOMS:

  • Pain with activities
  • Inflammation (swelling) of joint
  • Stiffness of knee mainly in morning
  • Limited range of movement
  • Deformity of the joint
  • Crunching noises on movement of knee joint

TEST:

  • X-ray (narrowing of the joints)
  • Blood test (to rule out presence of other types of arthritis)
  • MRI Scan (in some cases)

TREATMENT:

  • Ayurvedic treatment along with Panchakarma gives effective result with no side effects.
  • Panchkarma – Snehan, Swedan, Pindswed, Valuka pottali Swed, Basti, Janubasti, Agnikarma etc. treatments according to dosha, prakruti etc.
  • Weight loss – most important treatment. Less the weight the joint has to carry, less the painful activities will be.
  • Stretching of muscles
  • Many oral medicines available for treatment according to dosha, prakruti etc.

  • Pawanamuktasana
  • Garudasana
