ECZEMA

Eczema is a form of dermatitis (inflammation of skin)

It includes dryness and recurring skin rashes. It usually occurs on face, neck, inner surface of knee and elbow.

CAUSES:

  • Eczema is not contagious but it is believed to be hereditary.
  •  
  • Cold and dry weather.
  • Nutritional deficiency.

SYMPTOMS:

  • Intense itching is most common symptom.
  • Dryness of skin.
  •  
  • Burning sensation.
  • Sometimes it may lead to blisters.
  • If it is scratched, it may ooze and become crusty.
  • Painful crack may develop over time.

DIAGNOSIS:

  • Physical examination of the skin.
  • In some cases ‘biopsy of skin’ may be taken in order to rule out other skin diseases.
