Benefits of waking up in Brahma Muhurta

Brahma Muhurta means Predawn period, which is around one & half to two hours before sunrise. Our Immunity naturally gets benefited by waking up during Brahma muhurta as per Ayurveda and current researches also.

According to Ashtanga Hridaya (one of the well-known Ayurvedic Grantha/Book), Brahma Muhurta is the most suitable time to perceive spiritual knowledge and wisdom.

According to Arun Dutta, the appropriate muhurta or kala to aquire the Brahma Gyan is called Brahma Muhurta.

Importance of getting up in Brahmi muhurta early morning is due to its vata dominating property. Vata dosha is helpful in promoting body movements both internal and external and thus helps in easy evacuation of bowel.

According to the International Journal of Yoga and Allied Sciences, during the pre-dawn period, there is the availability of nascent oxygen in the atmosphere. This nascent oxygen easily mixes with hemoglobin forming oxyhemoglobin, which has benefits as – It Boosts the immune system, Increases energy level, Helps maintain the balance of blood pH, Relieves pain, soreness, and cramps, Enhances the absorption of minerals and vitamins

Biological circadian rhythm – A circadian rhythm is any biological process that displays an endogenous oscillation of about 24 hours. It has therefore been suggested that circadian rhythm put organism at a selective advantage in evolutionary terms. Brahma Muhurta is very crucial time which switches biological clock every day and reboot and regulate the rhythm and pattern of biological clock.

The classic phase markers for measuring the timing of a mammal’s circadian rhythm are – Melatonin secretion by the pineal gland, Core body temperature, Plasma level of cortisol.

As  we  know  the  open and  close  of  lotus  depends  upon  the  light, means when sun rises lotus is opened and when sunsets  it is closed.  In the same way the pineal gland functions is done according to sunrise and sunset. Same work is done by serotonin act as Satva Guna and melatonin act as a Tamo Guna. These are secreted by pineal gland which is located in dorsal aspects of the brain. Today’s lifestyle, stress, changing food habit, office workload causes late night sleep and late morning awake, so it imbalances the level of secretion of serotonin and melatonin. That imbalance causes depression, insomnia, lack of positivity and loneliness.

The average human adult’s temperature reaches its minimum at about 05:00 (5 a.m.), about two hours before habitual wake time.

The maximum plasma cortisol level (life protecting hormone) is available in the morning. It helps to withstand the stress and trauma in life. This is secreted from adrenal cortex under the influence of ACTH from hypothalamus. The rate of secretion of ACTH is high in the morning and low in the evening

So the awareness level and freshness that Brahma Muhurta bestows on you makes it the perfect time to plan important things in your life – be it work, finances, or day ahead.

The person who wakes up early in the morning his ageing process becomes delayed, as it decreases oxidative stress in body. The science behind all that is some elements like ozone help in brain stimulation and endorphin concentration is at peak which energizes the fabrics of brain and stabilizes the mind.
